About Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund

History

Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund (Rest Haven) is a California 501 c 3 non-profit corporation that was established in 1909 as the San Diego Society for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis. The corporation later became known as Rest Haven Preventorium for Children, a convalescent facility caring for children with or exposed to tuberculosis.

Rest Haven later became an endowment fund devoted to providing financial support for the health care needs of individual children. In addition, Rest Haven periodically provided grants to agencies and institutions who share Rest Haven’s mission.

In 1998, Rest Haven began doing business as Children’s Health Fund. Today, we are known as Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund.

Our Mission

Rest Haven’s mission is to provide funds for health related services for children in San Diego and Imperial counties when no other funds are available.

To fulfill this mission Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund provides one time or short term funding for health related needs for individual children who meet our eligibility requirements. Funds are also provided to assist health care development and to purchase needed services.

In addition, the Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund Board of Directors provides funding in the form of “Special Gifts” to agencies or organizations who have a larger funding need and share our vision. For more information please refer to the “Guidelines for Requesting Special Gifts” link on our website.

Board of Directors & Staff

Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund has a 15 member volunteer Board of Directors that meets twice a year. There is one part-time employee who handles referrals and all aspects of Rest Haven’s operations and the employee reports to the Board of Directors.
